What is it?
Igloo Mobile provides a way to quickly view notifications, recently active content, and the profiles of other digital workplace members. It also provides a mobile friendly view of the desktop browser experience. The app is available for Android devices (Android OS 7+) from the Google Play store, and for iPhone and iPad devices (iOS 9+) from the App Store.
Features and functionality
The Igloo Mobile app compiles instant subscription notifications onto the My Feeds page, andand broadcasts onto the Notifications page. These feed items are pushed to the mobile app from your digital workplace. Content that has been deleted, moved, or has had its accessed changed, will still appear in a feed but selecting it will result in a message indicating that you are unable to access it.
When launching Igloo Mobile you will first need to enter your digital workplace’s URL. To save time on future logins, select the “Remember my site” toggle to have the app remember the URL you have entered. Once a URL has been entered you can proceed to the Authentication page.
The Settings page is accessed by selecting the menu located in the upper left hand corner of the app. This page allows you to configure both your push and email notification settings, and is where you will find the logout button. From this page you can also:
- Manage the default tab that the app opens.
- View your own profile information by selecting your profile image.
- Access your digital workplace by selecting its URL.
- Launch the app’s tutorial by selecting the Tutorial link.
- Access a list of frequently asked questions by selecting the Help link.
- View what version of the app you are using, which is listed in the About section.
If you are using an iPhone or iPad and are unable to toggle your push notification settings check to see if they have been disabled at the system level. Access your phones Settings, from the list of apps select Igloo, then select Notifications and toggle the Allow Notifications option.
On this settings page it is possible to disable the receiving of @ mention and instant notification emails. This functionality is unique to Igloo Mobile, and not currently a setting that can be toggled through your normal web experience.
My Feeds tab
This tab can also be accessed by selecting the house icon located on the app’s navigation bar.
This primary tab of My Feeds is personalized for each digital workplace member based on what content the member has subscribed to, or been subscribed to by an administrator at a subscription frequency of instant. On this page you can select items from the feed to see more information about them, and you can also create new comments on microblog channels by selecting the Share Something bubble located at the bottom right side of the page.
The second tab of My Feeds provides a pulse of all recently active content that a member has at least Read Level Access to.
At the top of your feed tab is a text box which will filter your feed’s content based on the text that you have entered into it. To remove the filter, select the x icon that is located on the right side of the text box.
Interacting with feed content
Selecting an item from the feed will navigate you to that content where you will then be able to see it in its full form along with any comments that are associated with it. While viewing selected content you can choose to like it by selecting Like at the bottom of the page, and/or follow it by selecting the Follow button located on the upper right hand corner of the app. When selecting Follow, you will be prompted with a popup where you can toggle your following status for both the current content, and the channel where the content has been posted. Following content this way will create an instant subscription to the content.
While viewing content you can select the plus icon (for iPhones and iPads) or ellipses icon (for Android devices), located on the bottom right hand corner of the app, to do the following:
- Open the content in your mobile device’s browser.
- Share the content to another app on your mobile device.
- Mark forum questions as answered by selecting Conclusion, checking the circle next to the concluding comment, and then select save from the banner on top of the page. For this action to occur, Full access is needed to the content.
- RSVP for calendar events and download the event to your mobile device’s calendar.
- Download files from folder channels onto your mobile device.
If content contains Read Tracking members are able to confirm having read the content by selecting the Read and Agree button located at the bottom of the content page.
Content can be commented on by selecting Add a Comment, located at the bottom of the app. When commenting you have the ability to add images to your comment. These images can be taken with your device’s camera, or from its existing photo album by selecting their respective Camera and/or Photo icons.
Creating content with Share Something
The Share Something speech bubble icon is located located at the bottom right side of the page, and allows for the creation of new microblog posts. If this option is not present, you do not have at least Write Level of access to any Microblog Channels in your digital workplace.
When creating your post you have the ability to:
- @mention other members of your digital workplace.
- Take photos using your device’s camera to include in your post.
- Access your device’s image storage location, and select images located there to add to your post.
- Select what Microblog Channels you would like to post too. You can only post to Channels where your level of access is Write Level or higher.
Images will be added to the end of your comment. Select the X icon located on the upper right hand side of an image to remove it from the post.
The Notifications tab can be accessed by selecting the bell icon located on the app’s navigation bar.
The Notifications tab displays alland broadcast notifications targeted towards you. Content can be interacted with in the same way you would interact with your viewed feed content, as described above. A badge count on the Notifications icon displays the number of unread notifications. This count will be cleared each time the notifications tab is navigated onto.
Marking feed and notification items to read later
Content appearing on the My Feeds and Notifications pages have an open book icon located on the upper right side of their entry. Selecting this icon will darken it, and place the article on that page’s Read Later tab. My Feeds and Notifications tabs have distinct Read Later tabs that can be accessed by swiping right while viewing them, which results in only content marked as Read Later being displayed. Swiping left will return you to the full feed. Selecting the Read Later icon a second time will remove the item from its associated Read Later tab.
Items that you have marked as Read Later on one mobile device will be available from other mobile devices you may use.
Responsive View tab
The Responsive View tab can be accessed by selecting the world icon on the app’s navigation bar. It provides mobile friendly version of the typical desktop browser experience. Use the Back, Forwards, and Home buttons on the the top bar to easily navigate to your Digital Workplace. The Home button can be used to quickly navigate back to your digital workplace’s home page if you have browsed elsewhere.
Favorite Channel tab
The Favorite Channel tab can be accessed by selecting the star icon located on the app’s navigation bar. This tab displays all Channels that you have favorited providing a faster way to navigate to them. Your Favorite Channels tab will be available from other mobile devices you may use.
It is possible to view a Channel and its contents by locating it in search, or while viewing content in the mobile app selecting the Channel’s name which is located at the top of the app. To make a Channel more easily accessible in Igloo Mobile, select its Favorite icon while viewing it. This favorite icon appears as a star and is located at to top of the app while viewing a Channel.
The People tab can be accessed by selecting the person icon located on the app’s navigation bar. The People tab is an alphabetical directory of all members in your digital workplace.
Selecting a member from this directory will open a profile page that displays their contact information, and their recent activity. When viewing a member’s profile selecting a member’s email will cause your device to attempt to open its default mail application, while selecting a phone number will prompt you with an option of either calling or texting the member. Items in the members activity feed are also selectable, and once selected will bring you to that content. Content can then be interacted with in the same way you would interact with viewed feed content, as described above.
If you would like to view the members full profile select the button Full Profile to open the members profile page in your mobile device’s web browser.
Located at the top of the app is the the global search feature. Selecting this text box allows you to enter a term that will be searched for in your digital workplace. This search will return both content and people. Which results are displayed can be determined by selecting the Content or People buttons located at the top of the search results page. Selecting content from the search result will open up that content in the app. Content can then be interacted with in the same way you would interact with your viewed feed content, as described above. Selecting a member from the search results will open that member’s profile page within the app.
