What is it?
Much like adding a logo to make your community unique, adding a theme can make your community look and feel like it’s an extension of your organization. The Igloo platform provides site administrators with a number of predefined themes in the Theme library however, you can you can add your own custom theme using the Advanced Theme Editor. You can also make custom changes to the prebuilt themes provided by Igloo in the Text Editor under the Theme section.
Changing the theme will affect the overall appearance (look and feel) to suit the brand, values, and culture of your organization. The custom CSS feature can be utilized to stylize, show, or hide features in the site.
Features and functionality
There are a few key features you can use to enhance the experience of adding or editing a theme. You can use the Theme library to pick a prebuilt theme and preview how the changes will look before applying them.
Custom themes can be also added and edited using the Advanced Theme Editor. The editor allows you to apply your own code to the site, and your own custom CSS to the themes. It also allows you to preview the changes before you commit the code to totally change the look and feel of your community.
How to add a logo
Like most administrative actions, adding a theme can be done by navigating to the Control Panel. From here, go to the Presentation tab and select Appearance. See the article on how to add a logo for more details.
Step 1: Open the Control Panel
The Control Panel has a gear-like shape and is located on the right-hand side of the userbar.
Step 2: Navigate to Appearance
Once the Control Panel has been selected, navigate to Appearance under the Presentation tab.
Step 3: Select a theme or use custom CSS
In the Appearance window, you can browse the Theme library for a prebuilt theme. Should you choose to apply custom CSS, there is an option on the right-hand side of the page that will take you to the Advanced Theme Editor.
Step 4: The *Theme Library *or Edit Custom Theme
Inside the Theme Library you will be presented with four prebuilt themes. Once you select a theme you can apply it right away by selecting the Apply button, or click into the theme to see a preview of the homepage with the theme applied.
Edit Custom Theme
Edit Custom Theme allows implementation of custom CSS. This allows complete control of the CSS within the site and is recommended for advanced users only. You can preview and publish the custom CSS.

How do I get my old CSS back?
If you open up the developer options in your browser, you can inspect the page elements. Under the head tags you will see something like this: < link href=”https//nameOfCommunity.igloocommunities.com/download.public/customcss%3bv..”>. Anything after the bv indicates the version number. Input the link into a browser with the version number and it will automatically attempt to download the CSS.
Best practices / Tips and tricks
When you are applying custom CSS in the Advanced Theme Editor, preview your work before publishing . If you publish incorrect CSS you will apply this CSS to your entire community, and you run the risk of your community losing some features and not looking or functioning as you intended.
