A collection of questions received in Support this month.
Every month we gather together a few of the questions Support has received, and compile the answers into a resource for other digital workplace administrators. February brought a few questions about membership, and a couple of cases of misplaced images. We'll provide some troubleshooting steps here, making it easy to get what you need right away.
How do I export a list of members?
A members list can be exported from the Manage Members area of the Control Panel, using the button in the bottom right, below the list of Groups. The member export gives you all the data you need to slice or sort your membership, in a single .csv file. It includes a list of all members' first name, last name, and email, as well as their profile fields, making it simple to sort by location or department. The export also includes a list of all of the groups in your Igloo, and lists the date and time a member was added to the Group. The final column gives you the time of everyone's last login, letting you sort or filter by who's using your community.
The member export can be a great resource for gather data on Groups, checking profile completion, or verifying member information in your digital workplace. It's dynamically generated from the database, so it always matches the precise details of your community. there's never a need to wait to see changes in membership.
Several of my banners are missing!?
There are a few reasons why banner images might appear to be missing, but they typically boil down to one root problem: the area where the image is embedded is no longer able to locate the image file. If this happens, there are a few immediate checks that can resolve the issue.
Verify the location of the files
If the folder containing the image files has been deleted or moved, the images will no longer be present. Using a central folder channel for all banner files, such as a styles folder at the root level of your digital workplace, can help with this. Look for the banner images in their original location, and check the Trash Can in the Control Panel to ensure that they haven't been deleted. Items are retained in the Trash Can for thirty days, and can be restored from there in two clicks.
Verify the access on the files
If you find the images in the right place, check the Access on one of the affected files. Images will only load for a member if they have Read access to them. If the Access rules on the folder have changed, the cascading function can affect the images as well. This is especially important in digital workplaces with public components. Images available to the public will need to have the Anonymous Access rule set to "View only".
Verify the embed itself
If the location and Access are in order, it's worth checking the area where the image isn't appearing to verify that it's looking in the right place. An issue with the embed directly in either the affected widget, or in the global CSS in the Control Panel (for Page and Space banners) can break that connection, and may require an adjustment to correct. Verify that it's pointed at the right source by copying the download link of the correct image file and replacing the source image url in the code.
