Posting comments
Overview
Engage with content and other users by posting a comment. Comments can be posted on all content types in a digital workplace using the browser, email, or mobile app.
Considerations and caveats
Who can post comments on content
- Members who have at least Read Access to the content can comment on it.
- If Anonymous Commenting is enabled, Anonymous Users who have View-Only Access to the content can comment on it.
Replying to comments (threaded comments)
In addition to commenting on content (first-level comments), users can reply to comments on Blog Articles, Files, Calendar Events, Forum Posts, Microblog Posts, and Wiki Articles. These replies (second-level comments) automatically append an @mention to the author of the original comment before the reply text, and be indented from the original comment to indicate a new thread of discussion. Replying to a second-level comment behaves in the same way and results in a third-level comment. However, replies to third-level comments do not create additional commenting levels and are instead posted as third-level comments.
Disabled comments
Some content may have comments disabled. The message "Sorry, comments are closed" will be displayed below content when comments are disabled.
Moderated comments
Some Channels may have moderation of comments enabled. These Channels require a moderator to review and approve new comments before they appear in the comments section. Comments in a review state are visible to the poster with the message, "This comment is waiting for approval."
WYSIWYG (What you see is what you get) editor
Comments use the WYSIWYG editor. In addition to basic text formatting, the editor also gives tools to include images, gifs, and videos in comments.
Getting another member's attention
If information may be relevant to another member who is not currently following the content, including an @mention in a comment will result in them receiving a notification.
Automatic following of content
By default, posting a comment or reply in the comment section of content will automatically subscribe a member to instant notifications from that content. This behavior can be modified from a Channel's Subscriptions page by an administrator. Alternatively, members can disable automatic subscriptions from the Subscription Settings area on their Subscriptions page to change this behavior.

How to post a comment via email
Posting comments via email can only be done if a Channel is configured to allow posting content from email.
Using your usual email client, post a comment via email by replying to a notification email (excluding broadcast notifications) that you received. When replying to the notification, the body of the reply email (including images) will be what gets posted as a comment. Similarly, attachments that are part of the reply email will be posted as attachments to the comment.
If the notification you want to reply to comes from the email address noreply@{your digital workplace domain}, you cannot send a comment to it via email. This can be because emailing is disabled on the content's Channel or the notification is a broadcast.
