In part one of our three-part series, we explored the importance of the Digital Workplace Manager. But what is it really like to take action as a Digital Workplace Manager in the field?
Tammy Triplett of Leidos, a Fortune 500® information technology, engineering, science solutions, and services leader, knows what it means to bring together employees in a single destination that helps them communicate, collaborate, and innovate. As the Digital Workplace Manager of Prism, Leidos' digital workplace, Tammy is responsible for the entire front-end of the organization's digital workplace, including strategy, design, information architecture, permissions, best practices, analytics, and user enablement. Supporting 33,000 worldwide users in a variety of ways, including one-on-one, help articles, forum channels, formal ticket system, feedback, and a Champions network, her role is critical in bringing together employees that work to solve the world's toughest challenges in the defense, intelligence, homeland security, civil, and health markets.
Since launching Prism in 2013, Tammy and her Digital Workplace Team have accomplished a lot. Read on to learn about her top three digital transformation successes.
Making Prism a success has been a team effort. Our Digital Workplace Team members come from Communications, Web Solutions, Operations, Support, Development, and are all supported by two key Executive Sponsors, our CIO, Steve Hull and our Senior VP, Director of Communications and Marketing, Melissa Koskovich.
Prism has 33,000 worldwide users and includes a 730-page structure with no less than 350-page administrators. Collaboration and communication are key to the success of our digital workplace. Different skills provide support to my role as Digital Workplace Manager, such as:
1. Communities of Practice
When we launched the pilot version of the platform, some of our Communities of Practice immediately saw the benefit of using a digital workplace. Collaboration Communities are much more effective than an email distribution list. Due to their enthusiasm, we developed and provided a standard practice for how to stand up and run a Community of Practice in Prism.
Over the years, our Communities of Practice have grown to more than 100 actively operating on Prism!
Check out our Agile Development CoP below.
How did this help employees?
2. Double the Size of the Company in One Day
In August 2016, Leidos and Lockheed Martin’s Information Systems & Global Solutions (IS&GS) merged, effectively doubling the size of the organization. We developed a strategy for how to leverage Prism in the overall change management process as we knew it would play a vital role in communications and change management for both Leidos and IS&GS employees.
How did we achieve this?
Check out an example of how we used Prism to promote our 30 Days of Purple campaign.
3. Prism Champions Program
When we initially launched, we had many early adopters who were enthusiastic about the platform. We often leveraged these early adopters to help advocate for us and teach others how to effectively leverage Prism. After about a year, we formalized this team as the Prism Champions.
How did this impact the organization?
FYI: You can meet Tammy Triplett in person at Igloo's ICE Conference where Leidos will be presenting information about their digital transformation journey, specifically on implementing a networked enterprise. If you haven't already registered for the conference it's not too late — register online today.
Up Next: Tammy Triplett joins us again, to share the biggest challenge Leidos faced, and how they overcame it. Hmmm...I wonder what the challenge was? Can't wait to read that article!

Tammy Triplett - thanks for contributing this article! Couple of thoughts I wanted to share with you:
Too often, organizations believe by launching an intranet/digital workplace will solve the business challenges - definitely not the case. You need to have a solid strategy, resourcing and execution plan.
Something Leidos has done an excellent job of.
Well done!!!
Thank you Dan Latendre !
Yes, I attribute our success to our strategy, resourcing and execution. Build it and they will come does not work!
The name Prism came out of a crowdsourcing effort among our users. The top few were analyzed and Prism was chosen because it has many facets that represent our company, brand and culture. Not only does it denote transparency for open two-way communication, it also helps us look at problems and solutions from many angles. Sometimes one solution can apply to other problems and looking through a prism can help us see it. The collaborative environment helps people reach across the organization to find resources and solutions that they may not have within their own work team. Having a tool like Prism helps us make those connections to crowdsource and collaborate.
Awesome. Thanks for the reply!
