What do you use for company wide alerts?
Hi! We have recently launched our Igloo site :)
We would love to hear how others have gone about posting alerts to their sites. For context, we would someday need to post a red alert that a system is down, or power has been lost at a certain branch or location. Do you have an example of how you share something similar? If so, what widgets or enhancements have you used? Our alerts require a color code; a few paragraphs of content and changes often from level 1 to 2 to restored, so trying to get as simple as possible with even some prep work done in between. Thanks!
LeAnne

Amber Lavitt I know you folks use the Banner Message Enhancement frequently to post important information that your team needs to be aware off.
Would you able to share the details of how your using the Banner Message Enhancement?
We have the banner message enhancement set up and our emergency management team is particularly excited about it. We will only use it for life-safety matters and major system downtimes. Otherwise we use the digital assistant/publisher module for less worrisome alerts.
Sure thing, we actually just posted a new banner message today :) We use the banner message when we have a specific call to action we want our audience to complete . For example, today's message was a reminder asking employees to register for an upcoming company wide event, which included a link to the registration page:
As a best practice, we only keep banner messages up on the site for one week at a time, and we try to keep to one banner message a month (when needed). Otherwise, if used too frequently, we find they lose their effectiveness.
LeAnne Dennis if you're looking at 1-2 paragraphs of content, the banner message alone may not be the way to go - we've found it's better to keep the text to only a couple of lines for readability.
A possible approach could be to create a blog channel for these types of updates to use in conjunction with the banner message - the banner could have a headline/short summary and link to the article with the complete details.
I'm not sure if you'd be able to switch between different colour codes for different banner messages - you'd have to ask Aneik Gandhi about that one.
Hope that helps!
Hi LeAnne, thanks for your question. Our Igloo Banner Message Enhancement might be suitable for this use case when used with some code and either a blog article or forum topic. Basically, you'd use the banner enhancement to highlight the fact that there is an alert situation, and use a link within the message to link to a blog article or a forum topic that gives more details.
The banner message enhancement can be configured to provide a link - as you can see below - to the article detailing the topic. The message would appear at the top of your site, on all pages, until you archive the element that's feeding the banner, at which point the banner would disappear. Note the colors displayed below are also configurable.
This enhancement works out of the box with a forum channel, but I'd suggest using a blog channel for the body of the alert as the experience with a large amount of text isn't optimal, so linking to an article from the banner might be preferable.
Other customers will use the Broadcasting feature for content, but I believe it's got some limitations for you based on the use case described.
