November Grab Bag: Site Manager Questions
As the end of the year approaches, we see more and more clients reviewing their site architecture and looking to make adjustments. As your organization grows and changes, your digital workplace needs to grow too. One of the consequences to reviewing and rearranging the primary navigation is discovering a few of the often overlooked items in the Site Manager, and we got a few questions about them this month.
What's this People Page?
The People page is a built in resource for searching for members of your digital workplace. It's a special page that exists at the root level of your Igloo, and contains display options for all of your members, as well as the ability to search and sort by different Groups. Browse people's profiles, send them messages from the page, or look up someone directly here.
In smaller organizations it may not fit your use case, however. As an essential part of the digital workplace, it can't be moved or removed, but Administrators can lock the access to it or hide it in order to remove it from your primary navigation. Enterprise organizations may wish to hide it as well, preferring to dedicate Members widgets on various Spaces to showing the teams who work there, which provides additional structure and context.
How do I set my home page?
Sometimes this one comes in as "I changed a dropdown and now the homepage is different" but they have the same origin. The Homepage dropdown sits at the top of the Site Manager, and determines what page people are sent to when visiting your digital workplace's url. Typically this is a Page designed to be the front of your Igloo, though some clients have more specialized needs. It can be set to any Page or Space in your Igloo, and changed at any time by selecting a new item from the dropdown. These changes will take effect immediately, but can be reversed by making a new selection from the menu.
Can I move the Site Activity?
The Site Activity page, also known as the Pulse, is another one of those backbone pages that can't be nested under other items. It holds a record of activity in your digital workplace over the past six months, offering an easy overview to any member (respecting their access, of course). It also powers several widgets, like the Recent Activity widget, recording versions added to files and wikis, as well as content that's added or deleted. Like the People page, Site Activity can be cleared from your navigation by hiding it or adjusting the access, ensuring that your navigation looks exactly the way you need it to. Both pages can also be renamed as needed.
If you have questions about the Igloo platform, workflows, or best practices, you can leave a comment here, or ask a question in the Community area.
