There are several analytics options available in Igloo, and previous Tips and Tricks posts have focused entirely on answering questions using the Google Analytics integration. The Datafeeds option is available to digital workplaces with the Professional or Enterprise package, and is the most powerful and most complex tool available for answering questions about what's happening in your community.
The Datafeeds option tracks every action by every member of your Igloo, with information going back to its creation. They're stored using the oData standard, in tables upon tables of information. The root set of tables looks like this:
Yep. Tables on tables on tables. The table index and the tables themselves are only accessible to Administrators, or people with the Access Datafeeds role, and you'll need to be logged in before being able to see them at yourcommunityurl.com/odata.
While you can view tables from your browser, the datafeeds themselves are designed to be imported into a data utility like Microsoft PowerBI or SQL server. Once imported, you'll be able to query and join the tables to answer almost any question you have. Track the activity of a single member, a group of members, in a single Space, or in a collection of blog posts. Find out who your most active members are, and what areas people use to consume content vs. creating and collaborating on content.
It isn't all custom queries for data experts, though. There are a few easy reports made available by the platform right out of the box. The Rpt tables, like RptCommunity, can give you a quick look into activity for your members, your community, or individual Spaces. The RptCommunityUser table can show you anyone's activity, including likes and comments, and by using a data visualization tool like PowerBI or Excel, you'll ebe able to arrange that data additionally as you like.
Datafeeds let you take your analytics to the limit by answering the exact questions you need answered, and has a huge advantage by being built into your digital workplace. it knows who your members are, what Groups they're a part of, and everything that's happened. It can also work in tandem with Google Analytics, you don't have to pick between them, and can use each one to get the answers you need.
For more information about datafeeds, you can read up on them in our Knowledge Base or ask a question in the Community area.

Excel won't let me access the data even though I am an administrator... :C
Hi Cat,
Can you confirm that the authentication type is set to basic, per the documentation here: https://customercare.igloosoftware.com/support/knowledgebase/articles/datafeeds
If you're still not able to connect, can you reach out to support@igloosoftware.com?
Ohhhh jk I was trying to open it just "From Other Sources" instead of New Query in Excel 2016. Works now! Thanks!
