How to get your employees engaged?

Employees are your most important business asset, so you must get them to believe in the value in your digital workplace solution. The most successful companies see employee engagement as a strategic business imperative to increase productivity, drive innovation, and gain competitive advantage. This strategic shift can deliver huge increases in customer loyalty and revenue.

Employees matter, so get them engaged

An engaged employee is a person who is fully involved in, and enthusiastic about, his or her work. Engaged employees care about the future of the company and are willing to invest the discretionary effort – exceeding duty’s call – to see that the organization succeeds.  According to Gallup, companies with highly engaged workforces outperform their peers by 147% in earnings per share.

A popular study by McKinsey & Co. titled "The War for Talent" reported that a shortage of skilled employees was an emerging trend. Employees want to trust, enrichment, responsibility, community, and contribution. If they don’t feel valued, respected, or equipped to do their job effectively, they move on. The age of the empowered employee is here. We must change how we engage with them or be prepared to lose them.

When thinking about your engagement strategy, consider these three things:

Technology

It's about enablement. Allow employees to work the way they're accustomed to. Permit them to use the technologies they use in their personal lives. Make your digital workplace fun and easy to use.

Culture

It has to be organic. You need to find ways to help your employees become invested in and attuned to your company’s mission. Culture cannot be forced, and it should align with your company’s core values. It's what makes your company successful.

Communications

It relies on effective communications. Open lines of communication and visibility are key in creating an engaged workforce. We're living in a digital world, so we're not bound by physical walls, cubes, or desks anymore. We rely on effective communication channels to engage and get work done.

Finally, to truly drive employee engagement in the long term, your digital workplace team must think beyond the initial implementation and launch phases. Your digital workplace solution only comes to life when it becomes an integral part of everyone’s day.  Employees shouldn't just adopt it – they should want to use it.
