Measuring Success Handbook

Measuring the success of your digital workplace

Use this Handbook to learn how to measure the success of your digital workplace using a proven and reliable framework which leverages reporting, analytics and key performance indicators.

Getting started

✔  You have a digital workplace plan.
✔  You have determined key goals and objectives.
✔  You have a live site.

It's time to think about how you are going to measure success.

Success
The success of your digital workplace strategy depends on whether you can prove its value to the organization, especially your executives. Measuring the success of your digital workplace can seem like a challenging endeavour. Most organizations don't know where to start and often have more questions than answers.

  • What is success?
  • What do I measure?
  • How do I measure it?
  • Who should measure it?
  • What tools do I use?
  • What do I do with the data captured?
  • Do I have the expertise in-house to do the analysis?
  • What actions do I take?

Measuring success

It’s important to note that there’s no one specific way to measure the impact of your digital workplace. Every company has different requirements, business objectives, culture, and ways of doing business. While most executives can inherently understand the value of increased dialog, greater engagement, and better knowledge sharing in the workplace, measuring these can be difficult.

Whether an organization is considering investing in a digital workplace, or you already have one up and running, the most important questions to ask are:

Defining the business drivers

As outlined in the Plan Stage, it's imperative that you have a digital workplace plan which outlines:

  • What you're trying to achieve
  • How and when you're going to get there
  • Where you are now
  • What outcomes you expect

Without a well-defined strategy in place, it is impossible to measure success. Take the time to define what you are trying to achieve, and how the capabilities of your digital workplace support your key business goals and objectives.

To get you started, here are three common key performance indicators (KPIs) organizations have used to measure the success of their digital workplace solution:
