Does anyone know if there's a way to add more than the 3 widget columns?
For example, we're creating a post-event page and would like to have four or five pictures each in their own HTML widget across the page using 'equal-columns' for the page section. I know this could be accomplished by adding 4 or 5 photos to an html widget too but it's hard to get the formatting perfect for them.
Any ideas?

Currently we do not offer the functionality to do this. As you said, the way to go about achieving this would be to use a wide HTML Widget and align your images four or five to a line.

Yes. This is totally possible, and we do it all the time.
If you have the "equal columns" enhancement, then you have everything you need to display more than 3 columns! (Note that all the columns will be the same width, but that should be what you want.)
Simply create a new layout block in the page layout editor and set the appearance class for the layout block to "equal-columns".
Next, add the widgets in the center column that you want to have appear as columns. (2 widgets? 2 equal columns. 5 widgets? 5 equal columns!)
Need a new row? Create a new layout block. Need all the the rows to be the same height? Use the height slider on the appearance tab of ALL the widgets to be the same height.
