If the term 'Governance' leaves you feeling unenthused, you are not alone!
According to Prescient Digital, only 47% of companies have defined a governance model for their digital workplace.
At Igloo, we believe that building, implementing, and enforcing a good governance plan helps to integrate the digital workplace into the daily operations of your organization. What's more, in the Playbook, we show you how.
Digital workplace governance refers to the roles, policies, processes, and structure in place that make your digital workplace run smoothly every single day. The true value of governance is best experienced when it has NOT been in place - havoc can reign over time in a digital workplace without it - and no one has time for that. Cleaning up architecture, fixing contradicting or duplicate content, reigning people in, are all time consuming endeavours that can be avoided by setting the ground rules early.
If, like many, you have not yet purposefully drafted a formal governance program - you most likely have some of these elements in place already.
In a perfect world, you will have a team of subject matter experts for content, a technical expert, a designer, engagement expert and an executive sponsor at your governance meetings. This group of people covers all bases, ensuring a broad scope overview to build a consistent experience for your members, maintaining focus on your organization's main goals. Remember: Organization alignment is reflected in the state of your digital workplace.
Executive buy-in is the most critical element to a successful governance plan. Get this on their agenda as governance scope crosses all business units. Build relationships with IT, HR, Marketing, Communications and R&D to ensure they understand how the digital workplace can support their own business needs. Once they recognize the value, they will more eager to provide governance resources.
NEXT UP: We will discuss what makes a good governance plan.
