New document preview interface
We've overhauled the preview experience of documents (e.g., MS Word documents, pdf documents, etc.) to provide a more modern user-friendly interface. This includes a taller display window, an updated toolbar, and a better document search experience.
While documents that are uploaded after this release will preview in this new interface, existing documents will initially display in the old interface. These existing documents will be transitioned to the new interface using the following method.
The first time anyone views an existing document, the platform will enter it into a queue to generate a preview for the new interface. The time it takes to generate a new preview will depend on the number of items already in the queue. This is a one-time task per document; once a new preview has been generated, all subsequent views will display using the new interface.
We will continue to monitor the effectiveness of this method of transitioning documents to the new interface and seek to remove it when the impact of doing so would be minimal.
The following issues related to the new document preview interface are being investigated:
- Links within documents do not function (IGLOO-17812).
- Documents containing many pages can cause page loading performance issues (IGLOO-18033).
Accessibility updates
We've continued to make accessibility improvements to meet the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG). The changes made in this release improve the contrast ratio between text color and background color across various components in the digital workplace.
These changes will not impact any custom CSS theming that targets the updated components.
