URL Match Wiki/File Version Names
I’m curious how individuals manage files that get revised annually. More specifically, we have found that when adding a version of a file or wiki, the URL still reflects the original title instead of the newer version. We typically like to include dates in our files/wiki titles to ensure they are descriptive and relevant to our users. This sometimes causes the title and URL to differ when adding various versions. Where is the best place to put that type of descriptive information? In addition, we don’t always know there will be multiple versions of a file – are there specific file naming rules that could help to ensure our URL and title match when we weren't expecting multiple versions? Thank you in advance for your help!

The best practice we follow is to post new wiki and folder content with no date in the title to generate an evergreen URL. Then immediately update the display title to show the date. Going forward with new versions the URL is fine and the display title shows the date.

Hi Ally, I normally recommend date-specific information be kept in a file's description field to avoid issues with versioning. The description field can be changed at any time to reflect the latest edit date without altering the title or URL and can be shown in a folder widget. I have seen instances in which people upload the document as-is, then update the title when it's edited, but as you know this sets the URL as the original title and can create some confusion.
