The latest addition to the Igloo Widget Library is the Call to Action (CTA) widget. It's designed to give you quick, customizable buttons to direct members to specific areas or actions. Previously, we've created similar options using customized Links widgets and HTML Content widgets, but wanted to make it available right out of the box.
The widget itself supports a title and description, giving you the chance to contextualize the links it includes. It also offers the option of simple button links or links with text descriptions, as well as styling options for both. It can be styled using your custom CSS as well, giving you a rich set of styling options.
Where the Links widget connects people to different resources, the Call to Action widget places buttons on the page that are more prominent, and prompt members to do something, like create an article or download a file. Separate actions are the most common use, a specific call to action for visitors to a Page, that sort of thing. However, with the widget's ability to support multiple buttons, a few people have used it to construct sets of actions, like training paths or workflows. Each link leads to another stage, and makes it easy to navigate between steps or access additional resources.
The obvious destinations for the links in the Call to Action widget are articles or Pages in your digital workplace, but there are other options available. If you have a survey or form on another web service, the widget can point to that, for instance. Using the download link for a file, it can be used to let members download it to their desktop directly from the widget, which can be useful for slide decks or training workbooks.
It's also been used to create buttons for administrative functions as well, giving you an easy shortcut to add members, view Space Groups, or edit the theme. Individual page actions, like editing and activity have unique urls, letting you check read tracking or edit a set of Pages or policies quickly from the widget.
Call to Action widgets offer a lot of customization options, and are designed to be used in multiple areas of your Igloo. Training paths or knowledge guides may need the same set of widgets over and over again, which is why the widget setup works with our Page Template feature. Copying a Page or Space with the template feature will clone over the Call to Action widget exactly as it is in the template, so it doesn't require any additional setup.
Like the Integration widget and the accordion function, the Call to Action widget is designed to take common customizations and make them available and easy to use for everyone.
